While travel restrictions may be easing, you might not have booked that one-way ticket to Bali… just yet. Fear not. Desa Potato Head’s recently launched streaming platform, in-house studio, and record store Headstream is bringing the best of Indonesia’s sounds straight to your screen.
Ronald Akili co-founded the creative hub we know today as Desa Potato Head in 2009, aspiring to shine a spotlight on Indonesian culture. It’s a resort and creative village that champions wellness, culture, and sustainability. The new studio space, ‘the womb’, was designed by revered Bali-based architect Zhi Xiong Chan. Inside and IRL, you’ll see a space for chilling, dancing, working, and perusing records and zines. URL, there’s the ongoing livestream of local and global talent taking to the decks.
Over the years, Potato Head has hosted international acts from Palms Trax to DJ Harvey, Midland, and Jayda G for beachside sessions and raves. A hotspot for creativity, Potato Head has also teamed up with South Korean DJ and luxe streetwear label KIRIN founder Peggy Gou, with a capsule collection of Hawaiian t-shirts made of Indonesian satin. From highlighting local talent to global music curation and sustainable architecture, the Potato Head message is clear: live better.
HEADSTREAM offers “a taste of Potato Head wherever you are in the world”, and features Bali’s homegrown talent and global guests live every day from 7am-7pm GMT+8. As well as broadcasting from the resort beach, there are guest streams from other parts of Indonesia, like Jakarta, Jogja, Malang, and Badung.
The goal is “to unearth new and unheard voices, connect communities and provide a global stage for the archipelago’s many DJs, collectors, creatives, thinkers, musicians and cultural heroes”. Further down the line, Potato Head hopes to develop documentary film streams and other arts and culture mediums in the region.
With its official launch back in October, more than 30 artists from Bali and Australia put on a show, including Dea Barandana, DJ Jnett, Gabber Modus Operandi, and Mairakilla.
The stream hosts the likes of Dean Chew, co-founder of Darker Than Wax, the eclectic sound of Greybox, and Rizkycore.
HEADSTREAM invites everyone across the globe to discover invigorating new talent and dance together.
