Seminyak revellers now have another reason (not that they needed it) to visit Potato Head: a new vegan dining concept led by chef Dominique Hammond. Initially announced in 2020, the hot-ticket beach club teased Tanaman for more than two years before finally opening in January. This being Bali, the menu sticks to health-conscious small plates such as shio-koji-tenderised watermelon, cold smoked pumpkin and micro-herb salad. An array of Indonesia-inspired cocktails are available if you fancy upping the ante.

Rainbow Disco Club honour their 15th anniversary with a weekend of cutting-edge music, art, and exchange at Desa Potato Head. 

Following last year’s unforgettable event, Japan’s best-loved underground music festival makes a most welcome third appearance at the Desa for more kaleidoscopic cultural celebrations.

Inclusive and immaculately curated, Rainbow Disco Club is Japan’s best-loved underground music festival — regularly welcoming revered worldwide DJs and producers to perform for open-minded crowds in a breathtaking festival environment. Their forthcoming appearance sees them take over the Desa for a weekend takeover, with some of Japan’s most revered artists and a selection of global talents playing alongside our resident DJs.

Potato Head Beach Club plays host on Friday, with international headliners Peach and Shanti Celeste, a house set from Japan’s DJ Nobu, Tokyo-based Little Dead Girl, and local heroes Marvel b2b Imen and Seabass. On Friday and Saturday, the party continues late into the night with an RDC Klymax takeover featuring Sisi, Kikiorix, and Yamarchy, while a live show on Sunday at The Amphitheatre sees out the event with the sonic mastery of Kuniyuki, Soichi Terada and Sauce81 (LIVE), and Space System.

To accent the music, RDC’s own chef Kenta Hajima will be serving his unique ramen flavours on Friday, 26 April from 7pm onwards, while special merchandise will be on sale to mark the occasion.

#### DJ Harvey will be residing at Klymax Discotheque, Potato Head this May, commencing an eagerly awaited month-long residency.

The DJ, producer and global scene provocateur will take the controls every Saturday night for four consecutive weekends from [11 May to 1 June](https://www.ticketfairy.com/event/dj-harvey-all-night-long?utm_source=journal&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=dj-harvey-all-night-long-may-2024&utm_term=bali-events&utm_content=journal), performing all night long for each show.

While [Harvey](https://seminyak.potatohead.co/journal/potato-head-presents-dj-harvey-at-sunset-park) is no stranger to DJ residencies — his pivotal Ministry of Sound sessions and Mercury Rising at Pikes Ibiza are the stuff of legend — this marks the first time he’s found a musical home in a venue he helped create from ground to sound. Opened with an all-night session by Harvey himself on [New Year's Eve](https://seminyak.potatohead.co/journal/NYE-2023), all aspects of [Klymax](https://klymax.co/) are designed to Harvey’s specifications, with the seasoned selector pouring every ounce of a lifetime’s knowledge of [nightclub](https://seminyak.potatohead.co/journal/klymax-discotheque) experience into building the ideal space for himself, the crowd and the guest DJs he invites to play there. Every element is perfectly pitched to translate Harvey’s irrepressible dancefloor sonics exactly as he envisions, from the DJ booth and sound system to the lighting and acoustics and, as he likes to say with a smile, down to the bathrooms.

From the halcyon days of disco at Paradise Garage to techno’s formative years at The Music Institute and the blossoming of house music at The Warehouse. Dance music has always needed the right space from where its gravitational rhythms resonate with the audience. 

Inspired by these iconic venues and the sounds and communities they helped to nurture and grow, we built **[Klymax Discotheque](https://www.klymax.co/)** — a purpose-built nightclub dedicated to the art of dance.

The venue was designed from ground to sound in partnership with our longtime friend, DJ Harvey, with the legendary scene provocateur channelling every ounce of his 40-plus years of experience acquired operating at the pinnacle of the dance underground to help bring the project to life. Featuring state-of-the-art sound, design and lighting, every element has been carefully considered to enhance the dancefloor experience. 

At Klymax, the sound comes first, with the system custom-built to Harvey’s specifications by revered audio engineer, George Stavro. Rich, finely poised and immaculately detailed, the system creates a vast sonic sweet spot, presenting the music exactly as it was intended to be heard, with every nuance intact.

And the attention to sound isn’t limited to the speaker stacks and amplifiers. The club's interior – designed with Potato Head Design Studio in collaboration with Dutch architects OMA – is acoustically treated to tame errant frequencies, featuring a sprung dancefloor to help add bounce to the moves of marathon dancers. 

You might be wondering what music you’re likely to hear emanating from the Klymax speakers. In keeping with the space itself, the curation has been meticulously thought out, with a hand-chosen selection of revered international talents ushered in to perform alongside local residents.

Our wine list, meanwhile, has been chosen by Head Sommelier Minyoung Ryu, featuring tempting natural wines that pair perfectly with our dishes, appealing to both seasoned wine enthusiasts and newcomers alike.

So, what exactly is natural wine? Crafted with minimal interference, natural wine avoids additives or removal of elements – embracing naturally occurring ingredients and making use of whatever conditions the specific region and year provide. Grapes come from smaller-scale farming, usually following organic or biodynamic practices. This environmentally respectful winemaking uses living organisms instead of pesticides, resulting in unique colours, tastes, and appearances.

Taking inspiration from Buckminster Fuller's home – and brought to life by [Potato Head Design Studio](https://seminyak.potatohead.co/sleep) in collaboration with OMA – the venue’s unique dome shape and retro-futurist interior are designed to foster interaction and create a warm, inviting atmosphere.
 
And, just as the food, drink, architecture and design aspects have been meticulously curated, the music at Dome – featuring a vinyl-only DJ set up and vintage JBL speaker stacks – combines a hand-picked selection of rare, archival and cutting-edge contemporary sounds carefully chosen to enhance the carefree mood. Simply put, Dome is a perfect place for connecting with others and sharing stories.

Dome: Natural Food and Wine from Spaceship Earth

Did you know that, within the first 25 years of its life, a single mangrove tree can remove 0.3 tonnes of carbon from the atmosphere? That’s 2-4 times more than mature rainforest trees and is equivalent to the emissions released by a petrol car being driven for around 1180 km. 

Our mangrove conservation project is a fun way to contribute to making our world better. Join us as we take a canoe ride through the mangroves, waste-picking as we go, before stopping to plant mangrove saplings or harvest the seeds that will grow into pollution-fighting adult trees.

Registration fee: IDR 500,000 nett per person. Participants must be aged 12+. Booking is required one day prior.

The Potato Head collection combines Balinese craftsmanship with a modern aesthetic, featuring loving nods to the music and culture that shape our island experience while embracing eco-conscious production practices.

We drew inspiration from our diverse range of influences, piecing together visual and stylistic fragments into an eclectic selection that brings the essence of our Desa life to the world – from favourite record sleeves to graphic elements from Bali’s Homegrown zine, playful hospitality references to the island’s ubiquitous reptile, the gecko.
