Tracing the architectural journey of Potato Head Beach Club and Katamama, two icons of contemporary tropical design, head architect Ade Herkarisma will host a conversation with Andra Matin, the award-winning modernist and acclaimed co-founder of Arsitek Muda Indonesia. A spirited and open dialogue, the pair will delve into their creative processes, their shared challenges, and the varied inspirations that shaped these groundbreaking spaces.

With a curated set meal of nasi campur from our new Balinese Journey menu and free-flowing refreshments, the afternoon event promises an immersive taste of Bali’s culinary breadth and cultural depth.

Andra Matin

Known for his clean and modern approach to architecture, the works of Andra Matin reflect a contemporary take on traditional values – a way of working that prioritises context and sensitivity to the environment. With his firm, andramatin, Matin has been a key figure in the progressive wave of Indonesian architecture.

Matin's works and his activism have earned both awards and international recognition with his installation, "Elevation," granted a Special Mention Award at the 2018 Venice Biennale and his work on Banyuwangi Airport earning andramatin the 2022 Aga Khan Award for Architecture. Inspired by his great love of travel, Matin continues to seek out new knowledge, new experiences and new conversation – all with a view to further celebrating the architecture of Indonesia.

Our Group Head of Architecture and Development.
Ade joined Potato Head in 2014 and has since led the development projects and design guidelines for both our Bali HQ and global locations, where he also oversees the design studio, General Store Works.

Originally from Jakarta, Ade spent 16 years in the United States, splitting his time between Los Angeles and New York. He earned his degree in Architecture from SCI-Arc (Southern California Institute of Architecture) in Los Angeles, where he also launched a collaborative architecture-furniture line, Depac* Packaging Architecture. The work won the Future Furniture competition by Interior Design magazine in June 2006. Before joining Potato Head, he contributed to several cultural and hospitality projects across the US, including large-scale museums and boutique hotels.
