The art of exfoliating is all about granules. So it makes perfect sense, then, that beach sand is a great base for body scrubs. If you have access to clean sand, pick some up and give this process a go. You’ll just need coconut oil and an oven to create a polishing scrub that’ll cleanse the pores, help fade scars and get rid of dead skin cells.
Our home-made beach body scrub
You’ll need
½ cup beach sand
½ cup coconut oil
A jar for mixing
The process
Preheat your oven to 150℃ (300 ℉). Drain as much water from the sand as possible, then transfer it onto baking sheets and into the oven for 45 minutes to sanitize. For an even deeper clean, you can bake the sand after rinsing it. Combine it with the coconut oil in a jar and gently apply to the body in a circular motion. Rinse thoroughly.
About Sustainism Lab
Led by Potato Head’s Director of Sustainability Lauren Blasco, the Zero Waste Hacks are facilitated by our in-house Sustainism Lab team.
Sustainism Lab is a research and design workshop located inside Desa Potato Head which is dedicated to finding innovative solutions to waste. It helps the Desa adhere to a zero-waste philosophy, and drives Potato Head towards becoming a circular brand where every element fits into the three ‘r’s of sustainability—reduce, reuse and recycle. The lab also functions as an inspirational and collaborative space for our physical and online audience, and our industry peers.
