This July, we present a curated film screening featuring archival films from the Bali 1928 vaults and timeless classics about Bali. Launched in 2015 by Dr. Edward Herbst, Arbiter of Cultural Traditions of ITB STIKOM Bali with Balinese archivist Marlowe Bandem and other collaborators, Bali 1928 is the result of a decade-long effort of collecting and digitising audio visual documentations about Bali. The archive boasts 111 Balinese tabuh (music) and tembang (vocal songs) from 1928–29 Odeon and Beka phonograph recordings across Bali and Lombok. It's further enriched by digitised 1930s Bali films and photos, courtesy of researchers like Colin McPhee, Miguel Covarrubias, Rolf de Maré, Walter Spies, Jack Mershon, and Arthur Fleischmann.
