Colour is everywhere and often hidden in things we usually throw away. Fruit skins, leaves, even kitchen waste. The natural dye workshop at Good Times General Store teaches you how to find it. Working alongside our in-house dye practitioners in Bay 4's permanent studio, you can learn the full arc of natural dyeing. From how we can transform food and plant waste into vivid pigments, to how fabric is prepared and treated to receive colour. Experiment with materials, temperatures and times to create a product of your own process. Leave with a hand-dyed bandana and a t-shirt or a tote bag that connects the personal act of making into a larger commitment to material responsibility.

A hands-on natural dye workshop using Desa’s kitchen waste to create unique colours. Each guest leaves with a transformed and unique bandana, t-shirt, or bag. Using Marigold, turmeric, dragonfruit, beetroot, coffee, tea, coconut, avocado, sapan bark, ketapang and avocado.

The Dye Studio A permanent working natural dye studio sits at the centre of the store where colour filled bowls sit behind walls of gradient dye samples. Just as much of visual experience as it is a hands on one, here weekly workshops on natural dyeing, painting and patterning are hosted so you can create something truly unique. Learn how discarded food and plant waste such as turmeric, indigo leaves, fruit skins collected at Desa Potato Head can be transformed into pigments of dye to colour clothes and other materials. A practical and creative experience in keeping the cycle going, with colour as the medium.
