Evolving Landscapes (2026)
As Potato Head enters a new season of creative renewal, the Beach Club’s iconic mural is being transformed into a monumental work of art by acclaimed visual artist Rostarr, titled Evolving Landscapes.

Stretching across the entire building, the mural wraps the Beach Club in a flowing gesture of regeneration; reflecting both the ever-changing environment of Bali and the evolution of the island’s creative and cultural landscape.

Over the course of several weeks, Rostarr will bring this large-scale artwork to life directly on site. Visitors are invited to witness the process in real time, as layers of paint, texture, and movement unfold across the mural. The completed installation will remain on display for a 12-month period, standing as a living reminder of transformation and renewal.

With vast changes shaping our natural world, Evolving Landscapes captures this transformation in motion. Rostarr’s abstract calligraphic strokes shift in colour and texture from left to right; a visual metaphor for growth, transition, and the dialogue between natural and artificial worlds.

“For my upcoming mural at Potato Head Beach Club, I’m seeking inspiration from the vivid culture and people of Bali, incorporating gods and deities, traditional dancers, and sun and sea worshippers,” says Rostarr.

“I hope to represent these iconic images through my abstract calligraphic style to create a mural of epic proportions.” – Rostarr

The mural serves as both a symbol of renewal and a canvas for reflection: a reminder of the island’s vibrant spirit and the natural forces that shape it. It invites visitors to contemplate the evolving relationship between humanity and nature, creativity and environment, culture and change.

As Potato Head continues its journey toward regeneration, Evolving Landscapes stands as a powerful statement of growth — an embrace of the cycles of transformation that define both art and life.

About Rostarr

Romon Kimin Yang aka Rostarr is a multidisciplinary artist in painting, abstract calligraphy, large scale murals and experimental filmmaking. Born in South Korea in 1971, at the age of 1 years old his family immigrated to Washington D.C. and in 1989 he moved to New York City to attend the School of Visual Arts, where he majored in graphic design and printmaking. From early in his career he managed to produce work in both the art and design spheres, effortlessly blurring the lines between the two. For over 30 years he has built an extensive oeuvre of abstract freeformed paintings, totemic iconographic characters and monochromatic calligraphy works. Always creating in a spontaneous manner, never sketching beforehand; using intuition to guide his creative process, he is continually striving to find freedom within style, medium and form, and building upon the iconographic visual language he terms Graphysics, a word that exemplifies the geometric dynamism and energy characteristic of his work. Rostarr is also a founding member of the NYC art collective Barnstormers, established in 1999 by David Ellis and comprised of more than 30 artists from USA & Japan.

In 2000, he was named one of I.D. magazine’s “I.D. 40 under 30”, and recognized as an honoree at the 2004 A.I.C.P show held at the MOMA for his contribution to a celebrated Nike campaign. In February 2010, his forty five minute motion painting film titled Kill The Ego premiered at the Centre Pompidou in Paris. His artwork has been reviewed in Artforum, Modern Painters, The New York Times, The Village Voice, and Libération among other publications, and he has had solo exhibitions in Tokyo, Paris, Milan, New York, Los Angeles, Miami and Seoul, and has participated in group shows on both a national and international level, also extensively as part of the esteemed Beautiful Losers show which has toured museums and contemporary art centers worldwide.
